The classic Single-Horn Mini Anvil has an Old World European design that is still used today by Jewelers, Watchmakers & other Craftspeople. Anvils have been used since early Bronze Age times by smiths of all kinds for metal work, although the tool was also used in much earlier epochs for stone & flint work. The primary workspace of the anvil is known as the face. It is hardened, in order to reduce the amount of force lost in each hammer blow. The horn of the anvil is a curved area used to form various round shapes, and is generally unhardened. The step or pad of the anvil is used for cutting, to prevent damaging the face by conducting such operations there. Professional Jeweler's Single-Horn Mini Anvil w/large flat surface on top. The one-piece Mini Anvil is made of highly polished case hardened steel with a flat triangle curve up horn w/2 steps & large flat surface on top. The horn, surface areas are very smooth, great for wire wrapping & metal forming. Base diameter: 2.5" x 1.5" w/1" half circle cut out on both sides could be screw mounted to a bench or counter top for added stability. Especially useful in jewelry manufacturing, repair & other applications involving small or fine pieces. Single-Horn Mini Anvil for MetalSmiths Bench: flattening, shaping, forging, straightening, curving & forming metal workpieces. Also, making wire earrings, pendants, necklaces or when hammering silver, copper, gold or other sheet metal into shape, this will come vary handy! When hammering wire or sheet against a smooth, solid, surface is necessary in order to "harden" the material so that it will retain its finished shape. Recommend using the Mini Anvil in conjunction with a Chasing Hammer Flat/Round Ball-Peen head or a Chasing Hammer DLB Face Flat/Convex. 1.8 Lbs TJ9860
